Imus suspension delayed for charity fundraiser

Last Wednesday Don Imus made his repugnant and racist comments about the young women who play for the Rutgers basketball team. Many are calling for him to be fired.

Earlier today MSNBC announced that they would suspend Imus for two weeks as punishment for his remarks, but not until next Monday, April 16th. Minutes ago, CBS Radio issued an identical punishment.

Why are they waiting until next Monday? Perhaps this is the answer:
Both MSNBC and CBS Radio said they would go ahead and air the previously scheduled Imus radiothon in support of the Tomorrow's Children's Fund, the CJ Foundation for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome research and the Imus Ranch planned for Thursday and Friday.
Yes, that's right, everyone loves the Imus Ranch, right? We are led to believe doing it immediately wouldn't be fair for the poor sick kids.

I mean... it's not as if his charity hasn't been the subject of criticism in the past. This review on the Charity Governance Blog from two years ago gives us a good place to start.

Imus has raised over $100,000,000.00 for charities throughout his career. How much have you raised Mr. Blogger? Would a nickle be overstating it? It's easy to try to destroy things, go try to construct something Mr. Blogger.

No..

A good place to start would be the millions that Imus has raised for the Tomorrow's Children Fund, the CJ Foundation for SIDS, Hackensack General Hospital, and the Imus Ranch..Enough millions to--frankly--choke and concuss any criticism anybody can come up with including whatever you are inferring from the Charity Governance Blog and the WSJ article (of which I wish you would have been more clear and forthcoming about your suspicions of what 'you' think Imus did), and any & all counterfeit apprehension about his type of humor..BTW, the comments where misogynistic not racist, isn't that correct?..And, who the hell is the Charity Governance Blog anyway?..Next to Imus and his fundraising "performance"--they are nobody, they are nothing..

So yeah, let's demand he be fired because for over 35 years, he's never pulled any punches, and oh yeah, you can't make fun of people because of their race and heritage--that's smart..

Let's take the only media personality that dissects and articulates complicated issues & discussion, and makes the information palatable for the masses to not only understand it, but inspire them to be involved--that's progressive..

Moreover, let's have Al Sharpton--arguably the most polarizing racial extortionist this side of Louis Farrakhan--preside over the execution--that makes sense..

I don't know your name, but you have a great blog about fundraising--stick to that--as opposed to pandering to the great untutored minds, waiting eagerly to be offended by the turn of the wind..

CBS and MSNBC don't really give a damn about anyone's skepticism of their motives surrounding the timing of the suspension, and frankly--nobody else does either, in contrast to his fundraising performance and sheer numbers of lives he's saved by doing so..

The guy (Imus) is bulletproof, and like Don Rickles say's: everything, and I mean everything is at play so long as it's funny..These girls are not exempt, sorry--there is a strong resemblance to the Toronto Raptors--and you're on a wild goose chase..

"a fundraiser" said...

I never said in my post whether I thought Imus should be fired or even suspended... I just said that I thought it was interesting the reason for waiting until Monday was because of the upcoming fundraiser.

But either way... I gotta think I've been responsible for raising at least a nickle for my share of nonprofits.

But your right, I've obviously not raised enough to use my fundraising responsibilities in order to delay any disciplinary action I would face for making comments as offensive as Imus's.

I was just wondering how I can donate to your cause with my plastic key. Al Sharpton isn't concerned with his weight problem today and probably won't be tomorrow although his doctors tell him at his age it's a dangerous way to be. Band Wagon or freeride should be his nickname. C'mon Al, the mirror doesn't lie. And neither does your doctor. Pay attention. Get with it. Jump on the right bandwagon, or is it going too fast? Broph.
